Few people realize that many American prisons are run as for-profit businesses by publicly-traded corporations. It’s like something out of a sci-fi novel… only it’s real.
There is definitely a supply/demand issue at work here. After all, how often do you hear people calling for “FEWER prisons!!!” Never. As crime-fighting technology increases and as prisons burst at the seams, we are likely going to need more prisons run by more prison running corporations!
